Although her stay was too short (and always is), it was great catching up with her over sushi at my favorite place, Blowfish Sushi, then brunch at Slow Club on Saturday, and finally shopping in Union Square. It’s great to have friends from the 6th grade who remember what you looked like when you had braces, Coke bottle glasses, and a spiral perm (yes, all at the same time) and loved you anyway. There’s no false pretenses after that!

She surprised me with a beautiful orchids, which I will try to not kill, as a housewarming gift. It’s lovely and the first plant I’ve owned in years.

She loves orchids and proudly displays her plants on the kitchen counter. We had a great time looking at all the exhibition orchids and were so inspired by the varieties of flowers you can’t find in the local Safeway that we bought three plants to take home. I’ll have to take some photos of my mom’s new orchids after she plants them, but for now, here are some shots from the expo.
