Dogs will be dogs

Golden retrievers are my favorite non-snow dog, meaning if there were no Samoyeds, Malamutes or Huskies, a goldie is the dog I would get. Andrew, however, loves them and wants our next dog to be just like this one. They do quintessentially doggy things, like fetch, give you cute innocent “who me” looks, and roll around in the dirt (thank goodness Bianca & Sorcha don’t do that!).

Sleeping Bee-auty

Such a precious puppy when she sleeps. It’s quiet and calm – no barking, no knocking people over, no trying to steal food from the kitchen table. For 10 minutes, all is quiet in the house.

Snowy Birthday

The Fluffy Puppies turned six on Sunday. For their birthday gift, they got a trip to Tahoe for a hike in the snow. They were totally in their element.

Snow Dogs

Do all dogs love snow? These ones did.

Some dogs love the snow, some dogs hate it. But only a few breeds are made for the snow. Sheba, an eight-month old husky, was clearly in her element. Can’t wait to bring the Fluffy Puppies up to Tahoe to frolick and play. They live for the snow.

Capone

Whenever I used to make an angry or pouty face as a child, my grandfather would say in a teasing voice, “Don’t make that Al Capone face. Show me a Marilyn Monroe face instead.” Well, if he could only see this Capone face, maybe he would feel differently.

Chloe & Sophie

My friend Q. has two cute Pomeranian-Maltese mix girls, Chloe and Sophie. They’re all white, like my dogs, and tiny, not like my dogs. When I first met them, I nicknamed them the Mini Fluffy Puppies. At Q’s baby shower, we did a quick photo shoot of Chloe and Sophie, who had just been groomed. They weren’t so fluffy this time around, having just gotten back from the salon.

Chloe is such a ham and loves to pose for photographs. Sophie is shy with people and with cameras.

I have a soft spot for Sophie even though Chloe steals the spotlight.

Holidays and Family

Looking forward to spending some time with the family for the holidays. Every Christmas Eve for the last 30 years, we have had a big party for our family and friends. We’d sometimes have almost 100 people in my parents’ house and people would eat their dinner on the sofa, the stairs, the beds…basically anywhere there was space. But nowadays, the number of guests is much more manageable with 30-40 people coming for dinner. I miss those days, though, when all of our high school friends would come, there were kids running around all over the house, when people would come from all over California for the annual meeting of the Wong Family (my mother’s side). Then on Christmas Day, it would be much quieter. Sometimes we drove to Sacramento for a holiday party, but now we usually hang out at home – just the dogs and the parents and us.

Pepper

Andrew’s parents adopted a dog last Christmas and named him Pepper. I think that’s a pretty appropriate name. Pepper was completely fascinated by something in the rosemary bush.
