Spending the holiday weekend up in Tahoe…completely spoiled by the fabulous weather, great hiking, and the stunning fireworks over the lake. Hope you had a good 4th of July!

Now I’ve always been the kind of girl who enjoys art, but typically in the impressionistic style of Monet, Renoir, and Morisot while strolling through the Musee d’Orsay. The Museum of Modern Art in NYC is pretty much the exact opposite of my Parisian memories. And while I have not yet become a lover of Rothkos, Pollacks, and Magrittes, I can certainly appreciate an air-conditioned museum in the afternoon on a sweltering day. Andrew found more to appreciate than the indoor climate control, but even he was perplexed by the performance art that so many others seemed to be drooling over.

We did decide to create some performance art of our own…Andrew’s idea, not mine.

Intelligentsia: A bit of SF in LA

If you’re from San Francisco, home of Ritual and Blue Bottle and now Four Barrel, traveling can be tough. Where will you ever find good coffee? Luckily, Teresa and Doug had great recommendations in Los Angeles, and we tried all three of them.

Of the three, Intelligentsia stood out for its great coffee, cool decor and hippie atmosphere. Andrew especially liked how you wait in one line until your barista is ready and then he/she takes you off to the side and makes your coffee right there in front of you. Our barista could have been a transplant from the Mission given his hipster cool look. It’s very fitting given that the owners of Intelligentsia learned their trade at our very own Ritual.

In the south of France is a quaint little town called Sanary-sur-mer. I would love to go back there, order a Pan Bagnat and sit in the gazebo watching life go by.

Went for a long bike ride this weekend in Yountville through beautiful wineries and mansions. Made me wish that I was en vacance biking through the Loire Valley. Maybe I can convince Andrew that France would be more fun than New Zealand next year.

One of my favorite weekend pastimes is shopping at the Farmers’ Market. The Alemany Farmers’ Market is closest to my home and this weekend, it offered the best of fall. My all-time favorite markets, though, are in the south of France.

Left Andrew by himself at the hotel and headed out to the Bali Orchid Garden in Sanur to take some photos. I was on a quest to get butterflies and dragonflies but it proved much harder than I thought.
