The Museum of Modern Art in NYC is pretty much the exact opposite of my Parisian memories. And while I have not yet become a lover of Rothkos, Pollacks, and Magrittes, I can certainly appreciate an air-conditioned museum in the afternoon on a sweltering day. Andrew found more to appreciate than the indoor climate control, but even he was perplexed by the performance art that so many others seemed to be drooling over.

We did decide to create some performance art of our own…Andrew’s idea, not mine.

If you’re in the area, as we were this past weekend, stop by Funnel Mill and check out her paintings. As the proud sister, I made her pose in front of her paintings for some pictures. If you do stop by Funnel Mill, try the Dark Chocolate Truffle coffee. It’s coffee, not a mocha, but it definitely has a hint of chocolate. Very unique! If you get it iced, even the ice cubes are made of coffee so it won’t water down your coffee. We took ours to go and sipped coffee while walking along the Santa Monica pier. What a perfect afternoon.

His glass sculptures are so vibrant and colorful and bigger than life. It was solely because of his exhibit at the De Young museum last year that I decided to get a membership. Chihuly is one of the few artists that embrace photographers…not only are photographers allowed to take photos in the exhibit, but they’re encouraged to share them on Flickr and other sites. If a Chihuly exhibit is coming to your town, be sure to visit it…and take some pictures. Here’s a schedule.
